Recap of events today during fourth hour: Today students started exhibiting symptoms of dizziness and nausea during class in the 200 wing. Staff acted swiftly and removed the students from the building. School administrators were contacted, as was the school nurses, who assessed the condition of our students. First responders were also called to the scene.
The school district sent communication to high school families in order to provide notification and share the information that we had at the time of the incident. The following agencies were also contacted:
DeKalb Hazmat to test air quality and chemicals present;
Flinn Science Company to inquire about the details of the lab kit purchased;
DeKalb County Poison Control Center; and
Nicor Gas to test for possible leaks.
At the conclusion, the DeKalb Hazmat team reported no findings of hazardous materials and no hazardous compounds or gases. The school has been deemed safe by all authorities for classes to resume tomorrow.
The GK Administration will continue to investigate the situation for other possible causes.
